Steering the Socio-Economic Development in Balochistan

Balochistan is a province of Pakistan that has remained known for its political uncertainty and economic backwardness in the past. Concerted efforts are being made to mainstream the provide so as to uplift the socio-economic development in the area. For same purpose, development plans are being executed with zeal and untiring efforts to make Balochistan as an economically stable and developed province. Pakistan Army is steering the efforts to ensure a secure and stable environment in Balochistan and is at the forefront for the completion of the socio-economic development projects in the province for the greater good of people of Balochistan.

The massive security assistance provided by Armed Forces to make the environment peaceful and stable is no secret. It has been a comprehensive effort in the shape of anti-terror operations and development projects to roll the wheel of socio-economic progress in Balochistan.

Pakistan Army established border markets in Badini, Chaman and Kech, to increase economic activities and employment of the locals. The Armed Forces have helped in the execution of 510 new clean water projects worth Rs 8.837 billion. It has also facilitated Completion of 1,320MW Coal-Fired Power Plant in Hub which is operational since 14 August 2019 and Phase – 1 of 200 acres’ area of Bostan Industrial Zone out of 1000 acres.

Another effort was laying the foundation stone of desalination plant in Gwadar. The project will fulfil a long-awaited demand of the local population and will provide them with 4.4 million gallons of water per day with a capacity to increase the production to 8.8 million gallons per day.

Frontier Corps Balochistan (North) and district administration actively facilitated the resettlement process of around 2,000 local families, who had been displaced by tribal conflicts and unrest, have now resettled in tehsil Kahan, Kohlu district of Balochistan. Acceleration of South Balochistan Development Package (SBDP) include aspects like Improving road connectivity by construction of 1100 Km of roads. Improving Water Aval, 0.5 MAF of water storage to irrigate 0.15 Million Acres land & provide potable water. The projects of Roshan Pakistan for provision of electricity from 12% to 57% and LPG from 61% to 100% of households and Digital Balochistan to facilitate telecommunication & data coverage will provide livelihood to over 0.5 Million people. Exploration of Natural Resource & Markets, aimed at Harnessing natural resources, will create livelihood opportunities for over 0.5 Million people.

Significant work has been completed in the domain of Health and education. The aim is to improve the lives of local people and provide them an environment that could ensure social integration and progress. Balochistan has remained a soft target for the enemy states and has been portrayed as a troubled province with many issues. However, it is unfortunate that the massive development efforts pursued mainly by the Armed Forces are not much highlighted in the positive light due to internal and external driven propaganda and vested interests. Issues such as terrorism, missing person, and exploitation of resources are being effectively managed and progress on these matters is quite encouraging. It is hoped that with consistent effort, soon, the province of Balochistan would transform for the good of the people of Balochistan who for long had remained alienated and deprived of mainstream socio-economic development and progress.
